There are fifteen scriptures where the “book of life” and the names written within are mentioned or eluded to in the Bible.
There are three groups of people that are established by examining these scriptures.
The first group are those who were never written into the book of life from the foundation of the world:
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, every one whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain.
Revelation 17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, they whose name hath not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast, how that he was, and is not, and shall come.
The second group are those who were written into the book of life from the foundation of the world but their names have been or will be blotted out:
Exodus 32:32-33 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin – ; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written. (33) And Jehovah said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
Deuteronomy 9:13-14 Furthermore Jehovah spake unto me, saying, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: (14) let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of thee a nation mightier and greater than they.
Deuteronomy 29:20 Jehovah will not pardon him, but then the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and Jehovah will blot out his name from under heaven.
Psalms 9:5 Thou hast rebuked the nations, thou hast destroyed the wicked; Thou hast blotted out their name for ever and ever
Psalms 69:28 Let them be blotted out of the book of life, And not be written with the righteous.
Psalms 109:13 Let his posterity be cut off; In the generation following let their name be blotted out.
Revelation 22:19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the book of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.
These passages can apply to both those who were never written in the book of life as well as those blotted out:
Revelation 20:12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne; and books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of the things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Revelation 20:15 And if any was not found written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire.
The third group are those who were written in the book of life from the foundation of the world and their names have remained:
Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince who standeth for the children of thy people; and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
Philippians 4:3 Yea, I beseech thee also, true yokefellow, help these women, for they labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow-workers, whose names are in the book of life.
Revelation 3:5 He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Revelation 21:27 and there shall in no wise enter into it anything unclean, or he that maketh an abomination and a lie: but only they that are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Now let’s further examine why some believers will have their part in the book of life taken away by God:
Revelation 22:19 and if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the book of life, and out of the holy city, which are written in this book.
Only a Christian has his or her name in the book of life. The fact that God promises to take away a Christian’s part in the book of life for taking away from the words of His book proves unconditional eternal security is a lie:
Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. (22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? (23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Some try to say Revelation 22:19 only applies to the book of Revelation but the phrase “the book of this prophecy” is clearly speaking of all of Father’s books combined into one Book of prophecy spoken through many men being moved by God’s Holy Spirit:
2 Peter 1:19-21 And we have the word of prophecy made more sure; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day-star arise in your hearts: (20) knowing this first, that no prophecy of scripture is of private interpretation. (21) For no prophecy ever came by the will of man: but men spake from God, being moved by the Holy Spirit.
Notice Revelation 22:19 does not say “to take away the words” but it says “to take away from the words” of Father’s book which is to strip away the meaning of His Words:
Romans 3:4 God forbid: yea, let God be found true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy words, And mightest prevail when thou comest into judgment.
To be justified in our words is to speak as an oracle of God:
1 Peter 4:11 if any man speaketh, speaking as it were oracles of God; if any man ministereth, ministering as of the strength which God supplieth: that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, whose is the glory and the dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
But Paul warned us that soon after his departing, 1900 years ago, there would be men from among the church speaking perverse things to draw disciples unto themselves thus taking away from the truth of Father’s book:
Acts 20:29-30 I know that after my departing grievous wolves shall enter in among you, not sparing the flock; (30) and from among your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them.
Galatians 1:6-8 I marvel that ye are so quickly removing from him that called you in the grace of Christ unto a different gospel; (7) which is not another gospel: only there are some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. (8) But though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema.
Paul was moved of the Holy Spirit to warn Timothy that the perversion of the gospel would be so corrupt by our day that most of the churches would look like this:
2 Timothy 3:1-7 But know this, that in the last days grievous times shall come. (2) For men shall be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, haughty, railers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) without natural affection, implacable, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, no lovers of good, (4) traitors, headstrong, puffed up, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; (5) holding a form of godliness, but having denied the power thereof: from these also turn away. (6) For of these are they that creep into houses, and take captive silly women(churches) laden with sins, led away by divers lusts, (7) ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Coming to the knowledge of the truth is to put on Jesus works as fine linen that represents the righteous acts of saints:
Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Revelation 19:8 And it was given unto her that she should array herself in fine linen, bright and pure: for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.
Jesus counsels us as His church to clothe ourselves with this fine linen as white garments that the shame of our nakedness be not made manifest or He will spew us out of His mouth:
Revelation 3:14-19 And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God: (15) I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. (16) So because thou art lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spew thee out of my mouth. (17) Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked: (18) I counsel thee to buyof me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see. (19) As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
When the Spirit speaks to one church He is speaking to all churches from then till today for every scripture is profitable for instruction in righteousness:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 Every scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction which is in righteousness: (17) that the man of God may be complete, furnished completely unto every good work.
We are instructed to put on the white garments of Christ which are the works of Christ perfected in us but if we defile that garment we will be blotted out of the book of life:
Revelation 3:1-6 And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars: I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and thou art dead. (2) Be thou watchful, and establish the things that remain, which were ready to die: for I have found no works of thine perfected before my God. (3) Remember therefore how thou hast received and didst hear; and keep it, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee. (4) But thou hast a few names in Sardis that did not defile their garments: and they shall walk with me in white; for they are worthy. (5) He that overcometh shall thus be arrayed in white garments; and I will in no wise blot his name out of the book of life, and I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (6) He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith to the churches.
Jesus makes it very clear both in Revelation and Matthew that many Christians are invited to walk with Him in white at His wedding but only those that have both put on the wedding garment and did not defile their garments will be chosen to stay:
Matthew 22:11-14 But when the king came in to behold the guests, he saw there a man who had not on a wedding-garment: (12) and he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding-garment? And he was speechless. (13) Then the king said to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and cast him out into the outer darkness; there shall be the weeping and the gnashing of teeth. (14) For many are called, but few chosen.
We are first saved by grace through faith as a babe in Christ and then called into this holy purpose which is putting on Jesus’ good works as a white garment:
Ephesians 2:8-10 for by grace have ye been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; (9) not of works, that no man should glory. (10) For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God afore prepared that we should walk in them.
2 Timothy 1:8-9 Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God; (9) who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal,
The good works of Christ are to walk in the promises of God cleansing ourselves of all defilement of flesh and spirit perfecting holiness:
2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
This is working out our own salvation with fear and trembling which will cause us to be holy and without blemish before him in love:
Ephesians 1:4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blemish before him in love:
Philippians 2:12-16 So then, my beloved, even as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; (13) for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure. (14) Do all things without murmurings and questionings: (15) that ye may become blameless and harmless, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom ye are seen as lights in the world, (16) holding forth the word of life; that I may have whereof to glory in the day of Christ, that I did not run in vain neither labor in vain.
This will ensure we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as full grown sons of God who will not be blotted out of the book of life:
2 Peter 3:14-18 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for these things, give diligence that ye may be found in peace, without spot and blameless in his sight. (15) And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given to him, wrote unto you; (16) as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; wherein are some things hard to be understood, which the ignorant and unstedfast wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. (17) Ye therefore, beloved, knowing these things beforehand, beware lest, being carried away with the error of the wicked, ye fall from your own stedfastness. (18) But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and for ever. Amen.
